My name is Katie Buckalew and I am beyond excited for this year in 3rd grade at Moffett! This will be my tenth year of teaching, and my fifth in the Huntington Beach City School District. In my previous district, I taught 4th, 5th GATE, and then three years in 6th grade. From there I taught 3rd grade at Hawes and 5th grade at Moffett.
As a little girl, I spent many days playing school with my friends where I, of course, had to be the one to be the teacher. For birthdays and holidays I would ask for school supplies, such as whiteboards, pens, and workbooks. These items were all so I could be more prepared to "teach" my friends. As you can see, teaching is my passion, and luckily for me, I knew at a very young age that this was what I wanted to be when I grew up. I have always been drawn to children and love to watch them investigate the world around them. Around the age of 13, I started babysitting as a part-time job for family friends. I absolutely loved spending time with the little ones and treated them as if they were my own. My time as a babysitter gave me a lot of experience dealing with children, and most definitely gave me some of the tools necessary to be a teacher; such as patience, compassion, and creativity. I grew up in Huntington Beach and attended elementary and middle school in the Ocean View School District, then went on to Marina High School. I then went on to college at Concordia University, Irvine where I played volleyball and met my husband, Brandon, who I've been married to for 7 years. My husband and I spend our time chasing around our 3 year old son, Cooper, and 6 month old son, Wyatt. They are the absolute lights of our lives! I am so excited for a FANTASTIC 3rd grade year! |
